Technology wars! We have all heard about the iPad killing the kindle right? (or have you been hiding in a corner) Well Amazon has just acquired a new and cheaper touchscreen technology in a move to head off competition with apple and the iPad. Now if the Kindle 3 will have internet access with multi-tasking the iPad is going to follow in the footsteps of the apple newton apple’s first tablet! Already the iPad seems to be a big disappointment. In another move (possible connected) amazon is having a limited time IPOD SALE!!! Clearing out old apple products to blacklist them from their product line? Or making room for the the new apple iPad in the warehouse? Only time will tell…

In what we’re hoping bodes well for future Kindle iterations, Amazon’s pulled out its credit card and picked up New York-based startup Touchco, who specializes in — you guessed it — touchscreen technology. The company will be merged with Lab126, a.k.a. the Kindle hardware division. Here’s why we’re excited: the startup claims its interpolating force-sensitive resistance tech can be made completely transparent, works with color LCDs, and can detect “an unlimited number of simultaneous touch points” as well as distinguish between a finger and stylus. Current cost estimates put it at less than $10 per square foot, which The New York Times says is “considerably” less expensive than the iPad / iPhone screens. We’re not expecting to see immediate results with this acquisition, but given the proliferation of touch in the latest batch of e-book readers, it’d be foolish of Amazon not to join in on the fun. Ready for the Kindle 3 rumor mill to start up again?

iPad….gross…electronic maxi pad…but it seems like the iPad is more likely to be apple’s “newest creations”…even the bookies are betting on the iPad…

The fact that the app is still available under the “iSlate” name casts doubt on whether Apple plans to use this term for its new tablet device as logic suggests with the launch just days away, Apple would have already moved to ask the developer to rename the widget….Meanwhile, it’s being reported that bookies Paddy Power are offering odds on the name of the new device, with iSlate at 4/5, iPad at 7/4 and iCan’t believe it’s not a newspaper at 100/1.(www.pocket-lint.com)
